unpote series
Vessels shaped by tide, trust, and touch.
This trio of stoneware vessels was formed through direct immersion in ocean and creekwater. Each piece carries the imprint of its site—sea floor, seasonal drift, tidal weight—and the choreography of being held, nudged, and released. The clay was placed, not controlled; shaped by ecological forces and retrieved only after surrender.
The series draws on early lessons in open water, taught by my father, where timing and trust were everything. These works are not representations of water, but records of its gesture—collaborations between body, land, and memory.
UNPOTE : Ocean High Tide No. 1 This medium stoneware vessel was shaped by high tide. I placed the clay into full water and let it be carried—swept in and out with the tide, held and released in cycles. Its form bears the weight and motion of the ocean itself. It remembers the choreography of waves and the physical trust of being carried. Porcelain slip and wood ash glaze, fired in an electric kiln. 19 x 19 x 18cm. ✧ Provenance: Littlehampton West Beach (50.8, -0.55). Longlisted for exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery ArtEvolv 2025 ✧ £480. Available for acquisition—Click image to invite this piece into your home.
UNPOTE : Creek Flow No. 1 This small stoneware vessel was formed in creekwater. I dropped the clay upstream of a small falls, allowing it to fall, flow, and be prodded downstream. Each pass through the current left subtle shifts—its surface carries the rhythm of falling water and seasonal drift. Porcelain slip and wood ash glaze, creekbed iron deposits, fired in an electric kiln. 12 x 13 x 12cm. ✧ Provenance: Low weald creek (50.96, -0.144). Longlisted for Saatchi Gallery ArtEvolv 2025 ✧ £340. Available for acquisition—Click image to invite this piece into your home.
UNPOTE : Ocean Low Tide No. 1 This small stoneware vessel was shaped by low tide. I placed the clay directly into the ocean, letting it be swept up and rolled by the break. Repeated immersions pressed its base into the sea floor and patterned its surface with reflected wave light. The making recalls early lessons in diving the break—taught by my father in open water, where timing and trust were everything. Porcelain slip and wood ash glaze, fired in an electric kiln. 11 x 11 x 10cm. ✧ Provenance: Brighton Beach (50.82, -0.15). Longlisted for Saatchi Gallery ArtEvolv 2025 ✧ £340. Available for acquisition—Click image to invite this piece into your home.
